Superheroes in Chinese

Following on from the success of our excellent guest blog post on the most famous movie quotes in Chinese we’ve got more! Superheroes, someone everyone dreams about being at some point in their life! They are known for having a heroic attitude and supernatural powers they use to fight crime. They defeat the villains and to protect the public. They are our favourite film stars, but do you know how to talk about them and their characteristics in Chinese? No, we thought not so let’s get teaching like we do best here at LTL!

The word to indicate Superheroes in Chinese is 超级英雄 (超级 Chāo jí = Super 英雄 yīng xióng = hero)

Here is a rundown of our three favourites. Who are yours?

SPIDERMAN – 蜘蛛侠 Zhīzhū xiá

Peter Parker 彼得•帕克 (Bǐ dé•Pà kè) was only a teenager when he was bitten by a radioactive spider granting him spider-like powers. After the death of his Uncle, which he could have prevented, he learned how “with great power, comes great responsibility.” Since then on, he started to protect the innocent from harm. That’s how Peter Parker became the Amazing Spider-Man!

SUPERPOWERS – 超能力

Spiderman’s powers include spider’s leaping 跳跃能力 (tiào yuè néng lì), wall-crawling 墙上行走 (qiáng shàng xíng zǒu), spider sense 蜘蛛感觉 (zhī zhū gǎn jué), super strength 强壮慨肌肉 super flexibility灵活性(líng huó  xìng), super balance 平衡感 (píng héng gǎn). He can also create and shoot strong spider web material 蜘蛛丝 (zhī zhū sī)

SUPERMAN – 超人Chāo rén

One of the most famous and popular superheroes there is! Kal-El was just a baby born on a planet called Krypton, when his parents placed him into a rocket bound for Earth.

Once landed he was found by Martha and Jonathan Kent who took him in and raised him as their own son with the name of Clark Kent克拉克•肯特 (Kè lā kè•Kěn tè).

A name synonymous with superheroes around the world and the film, which was released way back in 1978 cleared $300 million in the Box Office.

SUPERPOWERS – 超能力

Superman’s super powers include super strength 超级力气 (chāo jí lìqì), super senses, super speed 超级速度 (chāo jí sù dù), invulnerability 刀枪不入(dāo qiāng bùrù), heat ray 热射线(rè shè xiàn) and flight 飞行 (fēi xíng) etc.

BATMAN – 蝙蝠侠 Biānfú xiá

Bruce Wayne is a billionaire industrialist and notorious playboy, but in his secret identity he is Batman. The superhero protector of Gotham City. As Batman he wears a bat costume who fights against evil and strikes terror into the hearts of criminals everywhere. Although he has no superhuman powers, he is one of the world’s greatest fighters and smartest men. With that his popularity is huge!

SUPERPOWERS – 超能力

The abilities that makes Batman a superhero are a genius-level of intellect 天才级的智力 (Tiān cái jí de zhì lì), and a peak human physical condition 惊人的体能 (jīng rén de tǐ néng). He’s a skilled martial artist 大师级的武术(dà shī jí de wǔ shù) and an expert detective 高超的侦探能力 (gāo chāo de zhēn tàn néng lì).
