Chinese Group Classes in Shanghai

Program

Shanghai group class

  • Small classes (max 6 students)
  • Certified teachers
  • Specialized LTL Curriculum
  • Make friends from all over the world
  • Flexible duration

Studying in a small group is a great way to combine quick language progress with sharing the experience of studying Mandarin with others at a very attractive price. LTL is a family style school and we do not believe into mass production. For that reason we keep groups small, with an average of three and a maximum of six students per group, which means that everyone gets to speak and practice during class, as well giving the teacher enough time to pay attention to individual student’s problems and interests.

Group Class ShanghaiLTL group classes in Shanghai are offered at five different levels (A1, A1+, A2, A2+ and B1) and follow the LTL rapid progress curriculum. For students who feel they have deficits in specific areas like tones, Chinese characters, pronunciation etc. the Small Group & Individual program allows them to combine standard small group classes with 1-on-1 classes. Students follow the LTL curriculum during the group classes, but for the 1-on-1 classes we will create a personalized study plan for each student to help him or her in the areas you need to improve most in. In our experience 1-on-1 classes are especially helpful for improving tones and pronunciation as the teacher can fully focus on one student, correct mistakes and teach how to do it correctly, as well as for students who’s spoken and written Chinese are not at the same level and want to close that gap.

Click to find out more about Shanghai Safari

Shanghai Safari teaches you Mandarin by have you speak on the streets of Shanghai – where better to learn? Find out how to shop not by studying a textbook, but by going out and shopping. With Shanghai Safari you will learn how to buy a subway card at a subway station; how to understand a menu, at a restaurant. These are things we believe make sense to be taught outside the classroom. You will be accompanied by a certified Mandarin Teacher who not only knows where to go, but also the vocabulary you will need when you get there. They will teach you all the necessary words in advance, then take you to places where you can engage in conversations and try the vocabulary in real life situations. Your teacher will help if necessary but more importantly, will give you feedback on the spot. During your “cool down” session the teacher will also give you a detailed explanation about additional sentences that could have been used and what the words meant that you didn’t understand.

How a session works:

1) First you “warm up” with your teacher, who will explain which situations will be practiced today and go through the vocabulary and sentence patterns needed.

2) The Safari starts, from buying red socks and a winter coat at a shop to discussing rental prices with a property agent, according to your Mandarin level, the safari will increase in complexity of vocabulary and sentence patterns in each session. Live the Language has twenty different Safari Trips pre-prepared for you.

3) During your “cool down” session, your teacher reviews with you the additional vocabulary that has been learned and when, how and why misunderstandings might have occurred.

Course information:

  • Shanghai Safari is a beginner course, best suited to levels A1 & A2
  • The course includes 10 hr/wk of specialized 1-on-1 Chinese classes
  • Maximum length of the course is 2 weeks

Shanghai Safari is a 1-on-1 course upgrade. To book this course, please first choose a program that includes at least 10 hr/wk of individual classes. You may then upgrade those hours of class to Shanghai Safari.

Alternatively you might also consider 1-on-1 classes that start on any Monday or choose a group class in Beijing.

We study together, eat lunches and dinners together, have evening drinks, explore the city and get to know many local and foreign friends on the journey. LTL has a great support network for our students. WechatA big part of the daily communications occurs in the school, but also through our “base of communications”, the LTL WeChat group. In this group, we organize the majority of our weekly events and share them with the students, interns and staff members. The group is very lively and there’s always someone to talk with. The weekly social calendar, posted around the school as well as on the WeChat group and other venues, involves a weekly dinner and a sightseeing event or day trip (The French Concession, the Oriental Pearl Tower, the Bund and the New International Expo Center are just a few of the places we visit). These events and activities are always organized for our students free of charge, you just pay for your own expenses on the day.

At LTL, you will make friends for life, while at the same time exploring the multitude of amazing sights the city has to offer, so we promise you won’t be bored!
