Click to find out more about Beijing Safari

Beijing Safari teaches you Chinese by speaking it where it is spoken best: the streets of Beijing! Learn how to shop not by studying a textbook, but by going out and shopping. With Beijing Safari the best place to learn how to buy a subway card is not a classroom, but a subway station; how to understand a menu, a restaurant. You will be at all times accompanied by a certified Mandarin Teacher who not only knows where to go, but also the vocabulary you will need when you get there. The instructor will teach you necessary words in advance, take you to places where you can engage in conversations and then listen to you while you have them. Your teacher will help if necessary, but more importantly give you feedback on the spot. During your “cool down” session the teacher will also give you a detailed explanation about additional sentences that could have been used and what the words meant you did not understand.

How a session works:

1) First you “warm up” with your teacher, who will explain which situations will be practiced today and go through the vocabulary and sentence patterns needed.

2) The Safari starts, from buying blue trousers with a pair of socks at a shop to discussing rental prices with a property agent, according to your Mandarin level, increasing in complexity of vocabulary and sentence patterns used with each session. Live the Language has twenty different Safari Trips pre-prepared for you.

3) During your “cool down” session, your teacher reviews with you the additional vocabulary that has been learned and when, how and why misunderstandings might have occurred.

Course information:

  • Beijing Safari is a beginner course, best suited to level A1
  • Beijing Safari is only available in Beijing
  • Course includes 10 hr/wk of specialized 1-on-1 Chinese classes
  • Maximum length of the course is 2 weeks

Beijing Safari is a 1-on-1 course upgrade. To book this course, please first choose a program that includes at least 10 hr/wk of individual classes. You may then upgrade those hours of class to Beijing Safari.

*Please note, students are responsible for any purchases made during Beijing Safari.

Small Group Classes and Individual Classes

“I really like the combination of small group and individual classes at LTL. During the group classes we learn a lot of new vocabulary and grammar while I have the opportunity to talk to other students and share experiences.
My 1-on-1 teacher is very good at making the class specific for me and I get to iron out all problems I need further review with, which is very beneficial for my progress. My teachers are great and classes are a lot of fun, it is a fantastic course.”
